Iwan Maktabi Reveals: GROUNDWORKS

As part of the ongoing Iwan Maktabi Reveals series, the Beirut-based carpet house presents GROUNDWORKS, a dual showcase marking WEdesign Beirut 2025. The exhibition unveils two exclusive launches: Sediment, a debut collection by Lebanese designer Shaha Raphael, and Feuillage, a new creation by internationally acclaimed duo David/Nicolas.

Architect and designer Shaha Raphael works between Beirut and Saghbine, crafting a language of form rooted in topography, geology, and the textures of time.

With architectural training from the AA in London and formative experience under Anne Holtrop in Bahrain, her design approach is sculptural, intuitive, and elemental.

In Sediment, Raphael translates her signature Articulation tables, recently acquired by Carpenters Workshop Gallery, into hand-knotted carpets.

The series reflects the choreography of erosion, where material is shaped by time, pressure, and natural rhythm.

Designers David Raffoul and Nicolas Moussallem blend cultural memory with contemporary form, moving seamlessly between Beirut and Milan.

With Feuillage, they explore the fleeting beauty of foliage—its rhythm, irregularities, and shifting shadows.

Like a breeze through branches or a leaf caught mid-air, Feuillage distills these passing moments into a quiet, abstract expression.

Each version channels a different season, a different memory of nature, rendered with sculptural subtlety and masterful restraint.
